Interconnectedness

Thursday, June 25: Today I made connections and reconnections.
I completed construction of my third double-walled clay vessel since beginning the Open Studio session. It is a satisfying part of my process, where all the loose clay coil “threads” are joined to each other around the paper armature. Once the armature burns out in the firing the internal void is exposed by an organic grid structure of interlaced coils with no beginning or end.
Coincidentally, today, also, was a day of reconnections. Three people, friends and artists, reentered my life after 6 months, 5 years, and 14 years. Two of the individuals visited Open Studios; one was a planned visit, one was a pleasant surprise. Old ties were reestablished, new ones were formed and seeds of future collaborations planted.
It is a reminder that my life, as well as my art has many connections.

To Jennifer Scanlan!
Love your museum . . . Susan Birnie is here with your MOTHER too. We each picked out our favorite art works. In particular the mosaic glass artist Moje delighted us. The blue ocean shield by elevator especially cool. Video interesting. Lucky you to work in such an environment. Off to dinner with DAD!
Love Karen
