DIY Thursdays @ MAD in collaboration with Etsy
September 2nd, 2009 at 11:39am Molly
During the month of August, MAD and Etsy worked together to host a series FREE hands-on workshops for crafters of all ages and skill levels. Professional artists were invited to MAD’s 6th floor classroom where they shared inspiration and techniques with visitors, highlighting their materials and process. Projects experimented with crochet, t-shirt reconstruction, 3-D embroidery and paper piercing. In case you weren’t able to make it to the Museum, Etsy shared the project live online in their Virtual Labs. In a word, awesome.
Speaking of awesome, credit goes to Sabrina Gschwandtner, Megan Nicolay, Nicole Licht and Aaron McIntosh for being AWESOME facilitators and talented art makers! Check out pics from each workshop here. Of course, special thanks and congrats to Jessica of MAD and Julie and Christina of Etsy for organizing this smashing success.
I was particualrly thrilled with these collaborative workshops because they enabled participants to immerse themselves in a creative and unique museum experience. View, then do. ^_^ Coupled with the MADCrush Wine Bar and ever-innovative exhibitions, August Thursday evenings were the ideal time to visit MAD.

Art is so crucial and it’s so unfortunate that so many take it for granted. These workshops and projects look amazing!

Etsy is a great Web site founded by a young person that always does great partnerships — this, NYLON Mag, etc. Keep it up! The more, the merrier.
