Bringing the lesson back home (literally!)

We’re proud to say that MAD’s February professional development seminar with artist Andrea Dezsö was wildly successful! Andrea conducted an afternoon workshop where educators built a four-layered, hand cut, and assembled tunnel book. The educators then explored how this workshop can be translated for use in the classroom. Teachers ranted and raved about how much they enjoyed it and how eager they were to try Andrea’s “tunnel books” in their own classrooms.

One teacher, Jennifer Cole, left so enthusiastically she almost immediately planned to do a similar lesson with her 11th and 12th graders back in the classroom at Murry Bergtraum H.S. on the Lower Eastside. Her students made wonderfully colorful, detailed and carefully crafted tunnel books (see below). She hopes to bring the students soon to visit the museum and see the newest exhibitions.

MAD is so proud to offer professional development seminars like this one which are both interesting, engaging and fun for educators and also practical and applicable for the classroom.
