First & Last

I spent my first day in the open studio on Wednesday . It proved to be a  very productive and enjoyable day!    A diverse group of interesting and engaging visitors help create great dialogue despite the atrocious weather.  

I  posted an image of the piece i completed while working in the studios that day. Foreshadowing or not, the shoes the figure wears are a reference to the Alexander McQueen’s “alien shoe” from his spring 2010 collection.

Sadly the next day we learned of his untimely death.

 One aspect of my current work is the role of contemporary fashion pushing boundaries and challenging our notions of beauty, adornment, and the female body. As an artist I am drawn to powerful images that surround us  and McQueen was a constant provider of these images with his transgressive collections.  He managed to think of fashion beyond the actual clothes and put forth rich conceptual feats ranging from the fantastical, transformative and macabre. These powerful images will be with us forever as he truly carved out a unique place in the canons of the fashion world.
