Slash inspired Sunday with a touch of Valentines

Destruction was the theme of this year’s valentines day; at least it was for this Studio Sunday where artist Sonya Blesofsky brought meaning to the term “You must destroy to create”. The focus was mainly on selected pieces from the exhibition Slash: Paper under the knife. Composed of mainly adults with the occasional five-year-old toddlers straddling their parent’s leg, the group made unique observations and held in-depth discussions about the works of art. The second hour of Studio Sunday consisted of making paper sculptures inspired by slash.  The group made sculptures based on two sentence statements written earlier about how they were feeling at the time. The results were astoundingly unique and beautiful each in their own way.  Even the small children who at first were hesitant to participate ended up making art that was quite impressive.  All in all I’d say that it was a success considering the amount of artwork that filled the classroom with radiance!

Sincerely, Genesis N.
