In conjunction with the exhibition Bespoke: The Handbuilt Bicycle the Bamboo Bike Studio out of Brooklyn worked in MAD’s Open Studio during MAD Saturday: Family Day. The artists from the studio worked with Brandon Eng of Bronx Science High School to construct a bicycle frame out of Bamboo. Visitors were invited to participate by discussing the process and the studio’s interest in sustainable alternative transportation. The Bamboo Bike Studio and Brandon worked 8 hour days over the course of the entire weekend to complete their mission. The Bamboo Bike Studio will be back at the Museum on June 12-13th, June 19-20th and July 17-18th working with four more high school students from around New York. Check out the Bamboo Bike’s project in Africa here.
