Week 1 of my Internship at MAD

Hi! I’m Zoe Kessler, one of the 2 interns working in the education department at the Museum of Arts and Design. It’s only day 1 of my second week here at MAD and I’m already falling in love with this museum. If it wasn’t enough that the artwork that is being exhibited is some of the most gorgeous work I’ve ever seen, the people here are fun and passionate about the job they do. The energy in this building is incredible!

Throughout the week, I helped do some promotion for the Italian Zombie Film Series that we are hosting here at the Museum called “Zombo Italiano.” Through doing some research, emailing, and posting on various websites, we hope to gain some attention and get people excited about this very special series!

Midweek, I sat in on the last day of the Portfolio Review that museum held. The students were inquisitive and engaged even on the final day of the program. Their commitment to making art so early in their careers is inspiring. As an artist myself, having applied and attended art school, it was a pleasure to offer any kind of advice in their college process to allow it to run more smoothly for them. Although I must say, it seemed as though those students were way more on top of things than I was as a rising senior in high school! I hope I get to see some of them again in the MADlab Sculpture workshop coming up!

On friday I went on to visit some galleries in Chelsea with Bobby and the ARTSLife Interns. Although I really only went to document the trip, I really enjoyed my time with the other interns and learned a lot from them as we cruised from gallery to gallery in the heart of Chelsea. I’m pretty familiar with some of the galleries in that area, and it was really incredible getting to share some of my knowledge with the other interns, but to also hear what they thought of the work.  They’re a phenomenal group and I’m really looking forward to working with them again!

I’m hoping that the coming weeks are as fun as the past one was! I’m excited to see what the rest of the summer has in store!!

Till Next Time,

Zoe
