Goblets & Jewelry

It is the last two weeks in our internship and we have done various projects. Last week we finished our jewelry workshop and I decided to make a charm bracelet. I learned a lot of things in our jewelry workshop. Especially how hard it is to make a piece of jewelry. Working with the different materials such as metal I found out it is really hard to cut. The saw that we used kept breaking so we had to replaced them with new ones constantly. My charm bracelet has a lot of pieces I had to cut them out in the metal such as a heart, music notes, a key and a star. After the figures were done we had to drill holes in them. A lot of decisions had to be made like the type of string I want to hold them and if I want all the figures together or separate. What I got out of this experience was to appreciate things more because you don’t know how hard it was for a person to make a simple piece of jewelry.
We also started on our goblets last week and finished shaping them. The materials we used to make the goblets was really fun to play around with and try different strategies. But when I actually had to make the piece it was really hard. I had a vision in my head of what I wanted but I didn’t know how to get started. When I did start, it came out wrong and I got really frustrated. But then I let my mind go and let my hands do the work and I came up with a great idea of making hearts and putting them together. In the end it looked like a flower. From there it started to take shape. Instead of making a high stem to hold it I made a base with no stem. I had a lot of fun making my goblet. I went from knowing what I wanted to make to having no clue of what I was doing to making a really great goblet. In the end everything turned out really good.
