studio visit with August featured artist Twig Terrariums

Now that Otherworldly has opened, I’m looking forward to some summer fun- celebrating the good things in life with Katy & Michelle of Twig Terrariums! Last night at 1:00am, the Brooklyn-based duo completed their first book, which will be available next spring. You’ll rememeber Twig from their recent feature in the New York Times, or maybe you’ve seen them at the Brooklyn Flea.

I stopped by their studio at Prospect Park this morning with congratulatory mimosas this morning, before the ladies of Twig embark on their summer road trip. Their vacation itinerary includes lots of “mossing”- highly perilous activity involving swaps and bogs where the most exquisite moss can be harvested, and antiquing to hunt for one-of-a-kind “terrable” glass vessels.

Curious to see what treasures Katy & Michelle will return with? Each Saturday in August, Twig Terrariums will be working in the Open Studios at MAD- sharing their often humorous, sometimes naughty and beautifully alive little worlds this Museum visitors. Mark your calendars! Summer always goes too fast.

We play around with scale but usually it’s contingent on the plant size! There’s no set scale; all depends on what looks right.
