The “Clay Club” at MAD open studios

November 7th, 2011 at 08:00am Peter Barnett

This week I loaded and fired the kiln, finally (yes!!!) It took a long time to make enough wares to fill the kiln. The little truck that makes Pur-fume from petrol fumes needed some company to enjoy the warmth of an 1818 degree Fahrenheit firing.

Last week a group of first and second grade children from Abundant Waters After School at PS 51 School on the Upper East side of Manhattan came on a visit to MAD. They made “Peter Pots” after watching a demonstration that I gave them. This week they returned with thank you notes in hand. It was a pleasure to reconnect with this clay club. So I took this picture of them for all to enjoy. Included in the picture is my 1935 Auburn boat-tail Speedster under construction.

Peter – this is such a great photo and the kids’ faces say it all about how much they enjoyed visiting with you at the museum. How great it must have been for them to learn a bit about clay from you. And your car-in-progress looks wonderful….. but I wouldn’t expect anything else!

Hi Peter – I don’t know if you remember me from Greenwich House Pottery in 2007, I was a resident artist for a few weeks in the summer. Good to see your work again – I was in New York just for a few days about a week and a half ago.
