Hello hello. My blogs are coming to an end unfortunately. August 27th is the last day of my internship. I really don’t want to go. I have learned so much because of this internship and I have a better general idea of where I would like to go to college. I would like to look into engineering, architecture, or graphic design. They are still very general ideas for college, but at least I know a lot more of what I would like to look into.
This day is great. On Monday we went on an unexpected tour at Pentagram with our tour guide, Joe, a graphic designer. He talked about some of the projects they did & who they collaborated with. It was interesting to hear about how a graphic designer works with different groups of people with lots of different jobs to come up with a design. For example, they worked with an engineer to design a logo for an airplane. I also liked how he talked of being laid back in the interviews & how he got the job by chance. We also talked about the work they did for MAD.
Last week was a terrific and fun experience working on our projects for our upcoming exhibition, “BUJMCCCA”, which is our first names’ initials intertwined. One of our enjoyable projects in this internship was creating a goblet. Of course, everyone in the group had to create a sketch of his or her goblet. However, during this process I changed the form of my goblet just like some of the other members of the group. Fortunately, I made it look better than the one I had planned. In addition, we had less than a full day to finish forming our goblets, which made it a short time procedure
Last week was a long journey making our goblets and jewelry’s. We started to work, starting Monday through Thursday from 11 to 5pm. First we put on some old clothing that we brought from home and started making and creating our goblets. We made our goblets with clay. My inspiration for my goblet comes from my interest in art and my desire to pursue a career as an artist. I decided to create my goblet as a paint pallet with paint and a paint brush made to hold up the cup.
This week was a very busy week , however it was also very amusing. We worked with Cathy in a jewelry workshop which was really fun. I learned about the process that is required of making a piece of jewelry. It was quite an intense process as we had to do all the twisting, cutting, filing, and braiding of the metal and much more. There were different tools used for doing these things and learning how to use such tools was very helpful. I am very pleased for having my piece completed despite the fact that it did not turn out the way I wanted.
It is the last two weeks in our internship and we have done various projects. Last week we finished our jewelry workshop and I decided to make a charm bracelet. I learned a lot of things in our jewelry workshop. Especially how hard it is to make a piece of jewelry. Working with the different materials such as metal I found out it is really hard to cut. The saw that we used kept breaking so we had to replaced them with new ones constantly. My charm bracelet has a lot of pieces I had to cut them out in the metal such as a heart, music notes, a key and a star. After the figures were done we had to drill holes in them. A lot of decisions had to be made like the type of string I want to hold them and if I want all the figures together or separate. What I got out of this experience was to appreciate things more because you don’t know how hard it was for a person to make a simple piece of jewelry.
Last week was amazingly creative… I mean creative in the learning sense, in experiences, in the doing. We finally made both our goblets and our jewelry pieces. There were a couple days where I did both of these projects back to back.
Hey its me again. I’m here to talk about my intern experiences again. Last week I got started on the audio tour for the ArtsLife interns. I recorded Ashmita talking about a specific peice in an upcoming exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Design. She talked about Ron Gillad’s, Flatware. It was nice because she gave many details, spoke loud and clear into the microphone and did an excellent job. The fun part for me was editing her voice selection to make it sound like a podcast. That part is interesting because no matter how many times a person will stutter, take long gaps in between words, or even mess up a sentence completely, there’s always a way to make the sentence sound interesting and coherent.
Last week I had a remarkable experience working alongside one of the Lobby guards, Gary. He demonstrated to me on how to manage a safe environment for the art pieces as well as the museum. Due to my assistance in the Operations Department I was given once again the radio (Walkie Talkie) to make sure that all guards are at their post, radio-checking on the gallery floors, also, announcing the pin color of the day. In addition, I was able to see how Vincent M. manages the identifications and provides a safe workplace for all members at this museum.
Oh god. This week is a blur. I worked with David labeling his files. He had a label maker & I made one of my name for the name tags we got when we first arrived at the museum. I also had time to watch a movie called “Chihuly And The Hot shop”.
